In partnership with the environmental engineering firm ETAMINE and general Contractor GFC, DGLa Sud took part in the competition organized by HERAULT HABITAT to design and build a 50 apartments sustainable condominium in Florensac.
The project comprises two parts, one of 15 grouped houses, and the other being a 35 apartments dwelling unit. Both are closely linked together on the same plot of land, and must result in a harmonious whole, amidst a heterogeneous environment of low height, located at the interface between high density center town housing and peripheral urban fabric. The project morphology emphasizes its horizontality, with high cypresses as a counterpoint.
The objective to build a high performance sustainable building also has impacts on the architecture of the project and its construction principles, with crossing through apartments, carefully thought of wind and sun orientations, high performance thermic insulation, limited thermic bridges, careful window dimensioning, energy production devices, works organization, and waste recycling programs…
Also, the use of traditional and local architectural figures helps the project insertion in its site. Mouldings, balconies, iron works and local basaltic masonry are used and rethought in a modern way.
